Manga Mania Book Club at Hemphill

  • CostFree

samuel-regan-asante-fOTLCnPdOnk-unsplashJoin us for Manga Mania Book Club, an independent reading, casual book club for fans of manga. Manga are Japanese comics, mostly written for a young adult audience, but manga exists for all ages and interests.

Once a month we gather to share and discuss the manga we’ve been reading lately. Each month will feature a unique theme to drive the discussion. Whether you've read one chapter or 100 volumes, we can't wait to have you join the fun!

May's theme is "Slice of life," a manga subgenre that focuses on snapshots of characters' daily lives rather than on large, sprawling plots. Some slice of life manga focus on real world activities like going to school, camping, cooking, or playing in a band. Other series blend in more fantastical or exaggerated elements.

Consider titles like Laid-Back Camp, Nichijou, Bocchi the Rock!, Yotsuba&!, and A Silent Voice.

The Greensboro Public Library has a large collection of manga, so please drop by any branch or use our online catalog to find the right manga for you.

This program is for adults. Teens are welcome to join with parental permission.

If you have any questions or would like a copy of the discussion guide, please email Austin Craver.
