Black History Month Cinema: "Eve's Bayou"

Celebrating 100 Years of Black History Month

  • CostFree

Celebrate 100 years of Black History Month as we present a film series of classic African-American cinema. Eve's Bayou (rated R), is the 1997 debut of African-American female director Kasi Lemmons. It stars the director, Jurnee Smollett-Bell, Lynn Whitfield, Meagan Good, Debbi Morgan, Diahann Carroll and Samuel Jackson. This renowned Southern Gothic story evolves over the course of a long, hot Louisiana summer, a 10-year-old black girl, Eve Batiste discovers that her family's affluent existence is merely a facade. The philandering of her suave doctor father, Louis, creates a rift, throwing Eve's mother, Roz, and teenage sister, Cisely, into emotional turmoil. Eve, though, manages to find some solace with her quirky psychic aunt, Mozelle. Popcorn and snacks will be served. Contact Ronald Headen at 336-412-6199 or by email for more information.
