Albion W. Tourgee and His Fight Against White Supremacy in Greensboro and Beyond

Scholar Carolyn Karcher will discuss Albion Tourgee’s post-Civil War years in Greensboro as a reformer, legislator and judge, concluding with Tourgee’s major role on the legal team in Plessy v. Ferguson. Dr. Karcher, author of A Refugee from His Race: Albion W. Tourgee and His Fight Against White Supremacy (UNC Press, 2016), will share the powerful and contemporary relevance of Tourgee’s advocacy for color-blind justice. There will be a book signing after the program.
