June is African-American Music Month. The Hemphill Branch presents a screening of the 2022 Academy Award winning documentary, Summer of Soul. Over the course of six weeks during the summer of 1969, thousands of people attend the Harlem Cultural Festival to celebrate Black history, culture, music, and fashion.
The found film footage was produced by Questlove of the Roots. Some of the featured artists including Stevie Wonder, Mahalia Jackson, Nina Simone, The Staple Singers and Gladys Knight & The Pips.
