Leaping Over the Ocean

A Conversation with Dr. Willi Coleman

  • CostFree

Join McGirt-Horton Branch and the Greensboro History Museum for a presentation by Dr. Willi Coleman on her book Leaping Over the Ocean: Re-Reading Black Women's Mobility in the 19th and Early 20th Century Trans-Atlantic World

Dr. Coleman has been researching and writing about Black women for over 50 years going back to her experience of California in the 1960s at a time when college students launched the fight for African American Studies as a legitimate academic discipline.

Dr. Coleman has an immense love for primary documents that link our work today directly to the people we study. This is why Leaping Over the Ocean features so many quotes from letters and writings left behind by women like Margu Sarah Kinson Green.

Feel free to reach out to John Serrano with any questions about this free event or call 336-373-5810. Please use the name of the event in the email subject. Thank you!

Be sure to stick around after the Question and Answer period of Dr. Coleman's presentation for a short demo of the library Ancestry account and genealogy resources with librarian Danielle Pritchett!
