This database includes information on more than 19,000 Guilford County, North Carolina, men and women who served during World War II. All services are represented. The vast majority of entries are for the Army, Army Air Force, Navy, and Marines. Coast Guard, Merchant Marines, WAAC/WAC, WAVES, Army & Navy Nurse Corps, and various civilian services, such as the Red Cross, are also represented.

In 1973, a catastrophic fire at the National Personnel Records Center in St. Louis, MO destroyed 80 percent of Army records. For most who served in the Army during WWII, this database represents the only source of evidence about their service, and it is therefore enormously helpful for Guilford historical and genealogical research.

The information for each service person varies. In a very few best case situations, the full name, rank, branch of service, serial number, date of birth, article citations, parents’ names, whether MIA or KIA, and other notes are included. In most cases, a portion of this information is available for each person.
