Dudley High School   Dudley’s history interests many people in our community. If you’re one of them, the following materials will give you a nostalgic look at the school’s past:

James B.Dudley High School 60th Anniversary Jubilee, May 15-21, 1988: This includes brief remarks by Harold C. Cotton, class of ’41, who was president of the Dudley Alumni Association, and by Principal Robert W. Saunders. There is a one-page history of the school, and photographs of prominent people and scenes from the school’s past. 

Morton-Young, Tommie. Report of The Way We Were: Oral Histories of Four Former All-Black Public Schools in Two North Carolina Countiessponsored by the Afro-American Genealogy and History Society assisted by North Carolina Humanities Council. Greensboro: 1991. This book includes a picture of Dudley and words to its alma mater. It records interviews about Dudley by former students James Jarrell, Prince Graves, and Annye M. Wright and former teachers Nell Coley, Vance Chavis, Alma White, and William Goldsborough, as well as interviews with Harold Cotton (parent of former students) and Otis Hairston (community leader).
