O HenryIn this small park are three statues commemorating William Sydney Porter, born in Greensboro in 1862, who became a great short story writer, using the pen name O. Henry. There is a statue of O. Henry, one depicting his famous short stories "Gift of the Magi" and "The Ransom of Red Chief," and one showing a dog. These sculptures were made by Maria J. Kirby-Smith in 1985, provided by the Southern Life Insurance Company, and presented by the O. Henry Festival, Inc.
