Celebrate One City, One Book and join us for a film screening that highlights the cuisine of a local culture. This month’s selection celebrates Soul Food cuisine.
Soul Food (rated R) is told through the eyes of 11-year-old Ahmad, and follows the trials of the Joseph family, a close-knit Chicago family that gets together to have Sunday dinner every week. Mother Big Mama Joe has three daughters, who each have had varying success. Life becomes complicated when Mother Joe, the glue that holds the family together, suffers a debilitating stroke.
A speaker will be invited to attend with a brief presentation before the film screening. There will be a sample of the cuisine provided. Contact Ronald Headen by email or call 336-412-6199 for more information.
