Godzilla 70th Anniversary Celebration

  • CostFree

GODZILLA DAY (Instagram Post)Join us to celebrate the King of the Monsters!

Godzilla first roared and smashed into Japanese movie theaters in 1954 and for the last 70 years, he has been a global pop culture icon with over 35 film projects and a revolving cast of monster friends and foes including Mothra, King Ghidorah, and Mechagodzilla. Godzilla has meant many things across his numerous interpretations, from being a metaphor for nuclear war or environmental neglect to a hero and friend of humanity against interstellar invaders.

We are proud to welcome our special guest, Richard Cox,  a Digital Technology Consultant at the UNCG Library, a Godzilla/kaiju artifact collector, and co-founder of the ClubTokyo.org. Richard will be showcasing a mini-museum of Godzilla collectibles followed by a screening of the 2001 film Godzilla, Mothra and King Ghidorah: Giant Monsters All-Out Attack.

The film is not rated but is recommended for ages 13 and over and runs for 1 hour and 45 minutes.

Registration for this event is not required but space may be limited. Popcorn and drinks will be provided while supplies last.

If you have questions, email Austin Craver or call the Hemphill Branch Library at 336-373-2925.
