This documentary examines the life of Bayard Rustin, one of the first “freedom riders,” an advisor to Dr. Martin Luther King and A. Philip Randolph, and principal organizer of the 1963 March on Washington. He was forced to play a background role in many landmark civil rights events because he was homosexual. Rustin later advocated on behalf of gay and lesbian causes. This film has been the recipient of more than 25 awards and honors. (2002, 83 minutes)
