Communication & Hearing Assistance Mentoring Program Q&A

  • Cost
Smith Senior Center is partnering with the NC Division of Services for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing (DSDHH) on a new program to support seniors with hearing loss. The Communication and Hearing Assistance Mentoring Program (CHAMP) will provide peer mentors for seniors who are having trouble adjusting to wearing hearing aids or who have other challenges related to hearing loss. Mentors will be experienced with hearing loss and using hearing aids.

Smith Senior Center is currently seeking experienced hearing aid users interested in becoming peer mentors. Mentors will receive formal training from the DSDHH's Hard of Hearing Services Specialist in the areas of Communication and Self-Advocacy, Understanding the Effects of Hearing Loss, and Hearing Assistive Technology. Anyone interested in becoming a mentor is invited to attend this information meeting.

For more information, call David Litman, hard of hearing services specialist, at 336-541-6451.
