The subject of Black Migrations explores the movement of people of African descent to new destinations and subsequently to new social realities. Using Zora Neal Hurston’s Barracoon: The Story of the Last Black Cargo, Dr. Armondo Collins, Head of UNCG’s Digital Media Commons, will lead participants in a community discussion about Black migration and the racialized inter- and intra-class struggle in modern America. Beverly Burnette, President of the North Carolina Association of Black Storytellers and 2018 recipient of the Zora Neale Hurston Award, will join the discussion and present an excerpt of her one-woman show, How It Feels to Be Colored Me.

Also, participants will be able to record their stories of migration that will be collected and archived in the Greensboro History Museum.
