The film, a parody of the original Star Wars trilogy that also lampoons other sci-fi franchises including Star Trek, Alien and The Planet of the Apes, was released by Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer on June 24, 1987. It is co-written, produced and directed by Mel Brooks and stars Brooks, Bill Pullman, John Candy and Rick Moranis. It also features Daphne Zuniga, Dick Van Patten, and the voice of Joan Rivers. It was released to mixed reviews, but became a cult classic thanks to video and is one of Brooks's most popular films. Dress up in your favorite space duds.
