Dr. John Hope Franklin recast the study of United States History by ensuring that the African American experience was included in a full and honest way. His work resonates directly through the current day and is reflected in the undertaking of luminaries like Henry Louis Gates, Jr. and in ongoing conversations like those provoked by the New York Times 1619 Project.
