HerStory at 5: Dr. Mable Scott

Women’s History Month is a time to honor and recognize the achievements of incredible women throughout history. It is a time to recognize the thousands of ways that women of all cultures have provided both healing and hope throughout history. Stop by Central Library for a special a look at the fascinating life of Dr. Mable Scott.

Dr. Scott’s new memoir, 38126 KING’S KIDS…NOBODY SAID WE WERE POOR!, combines "folkisms" from back in the day and shares what it was like to grow up in segregated South back in 1950’s. Mable Springfield Scott's career began in Memphis radio at several different stations. In North Carolina, she has worked at WFMY-TV 2, Greensboro City Schools, Guilford County Schools, and NC A&T State University. She recently retired from Rockingham County Government.

In addition to 38126 KING’S KIDS, her short story "Faith Over Fear, Bishop Charles Harrison Mason & the Church of God in Christ",  was featured in the book, Crowns: Portraits of Black Women in Church Hats. She has served on the boards of many community organizations and is active with her church. She and her husband, Paul, co-host "Your Sunday Morning Praise Party," on 90.1 WNAA-FM-HD Radio. She is a communications graduate of the University of Tennessee-Knoxville; with a master’s in Adult Education and a Ph.D. in Leadership from NC A&T State University.
