StoryCorps at Your Library 

The Greensboro Public Library was one of 10 libraries in the nation selected to pilot "StoryCorps @ Your Library."

StoryCorps is one of the largest oral history projects of its kind; millions listen to the weekly broadcasts on NPR’s Morning Edition.

StoryCorps was part of Greensboro’s 2013 One City, One Book project, featuring Into the Beautiful North by Luis Alberto Urrea. And while Into the Beautiful North focuses on themes of immigration, discrimination and hope, Greensboro's StoryCorps project theme is “Leaving Home.”

The StoryCorp project was particularly interested in stories from or about these four populations:

1. Immigrants
2. African Americans, as related to 'the great migration'
3. Older adults leaving home to move into a care facility
4. College students, especially those who are the first from their families to attend college.

Since 2003, StoryCorps has collected and archived more than 40,000 interviews from nearly 80,000 participants. Each local conversation is recorded and preserved at the Library of Congress' American Folklife Center and Greensboro History Museum.
